FES Bangladesh and partners promote social justice and democratic development
From the beginning the focus of the work of FES in South, Southeast and East Asia has been the promotion of democratic development and of the social dimension of economic development. In the past few years, the foundation has given more importance to the international dialogue within Asia as well as between Asia and Europe.
FES Office inaugurated in Dhaka
Michael Sommer, President of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), Chairman of the German Confederation of Trade Unions (DGB) and Vice Chairman of FES inaugurated the new FES office in Dhaka. The German Ambassador Albrecht Conze and Mr. Riaz Hammidullah of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also spoke during the inauguration ceremony on the 7th of April 2014.

In April 2014, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) officially opened its office in Dhaka/Bangladesh. Together with its partners, the work of FES in Bangladesh aims at facilitating inclusive dialogues on social justice with a focus on labour rights, sustainable development and international cooperation. The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), Dhaka University (DU), and the Bangladesh Institute for Labour Studies (BILS) are some of the trusted partners of FES in Bangladesh. Since opening its office in Dhaka, CPD and FES held several joint events in Dhaka with the shared objective of strengthening the voice of the least developed countries (LDCs) in global governance institutions such as the UN and the WTO.
